Introduced in 2019, the Developers Programme facilitates partnerships where the NHT provides land while developers secure financing, complete designs, and obtain necessary approvals to execute housing developments.
Speaking at a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) Think Tank on March 25, the NHT’s Senior General Manager for Construction and Development, Brian Saunders, emphasised the critical role of these partnerships in addressing the country’s housing needs.
“We have been actively seeking partnerships across all fronts to achieve this significant undertaking,” Mr. Saunders pointed out.
Under the programme, developers can use NHT-provided land as collateral to secure funding.
The NHT will also purchase 80 per cent of the housing units, while developers retain the remaining 20 per cent for sale.
“For us, this programme aligns directly with the NHT’s broader mission of expanding affordable housing. We seek developers who share our vision of providing quality homes for lower-income Jamaicans,” Mr. Saunders said.
Developers interested in participating must submit an application form to become prequalified.
The form is available on the NHT’s website at
www.nht.gov.jm.Once prequalified, developers can respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) issued by the NHT.
Mr. Saunders noted that proposals will be evaluated based on the requirements outlined in the RFP, and successful applicants will enter into agreements with the NHT.
