The Opposition has called on Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness to clarify the status of the Morant Bay Urban Centre in St. Thomas.

Spokesperson on Trade, Industry and Global Logistics, Anthony Hylton pointed to reports that the centre remains incomplete and inaccessible to tenants, nearly a year after Dr. Holness officially opened it last year April.

Mr. Hylton said the facility still lacks basic utilities and faces unresolved sewage issues, with the vast majority of commercial spaces yet to be handed over.

The spokesman said small business operators planned their finances, secured stock and waited for their key and ten months later, they are still waiting, bleeding revenue every day the gates remain closed to them.

The Opposition Spokesperson has demanded a full disclosure on a number of issues, including the role of the Factory’s Corporation of Jamaica in financing the project.
