PAC to summon executives of UHWI to respond to questions about procurement breaches
The University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Fitzgerald Mitchell, former CEO Kevin Allen and former Board Chairman Wayne Chai Chong are to be summoned to the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
This, after committee members approved Chairman Julian Robinson’s request to have them attend.
The PAC is currently reviewing the Auditor General’s report that flagged several procurement breaches at the UHWI, including the misuse of its tax exemption status to facilitate the importation of goods on behalf of private companies.
Mr. Mitchell went on leave following the publication of the AuG’s report.
He was appointed CEO in June 2024.
Mr. Robinson said the officials would be able to answer questions regarding the hospital’s operation that the current management cannot.
