Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness says Jamaica is moving toward the regional average of 15 murders per hundred thousand people, as the Government intensifies measures aimed at securing lasting peace.
He was reacting to the recent reduction in murders, noting that while progress has been made, crime reduction alone is not the end goal.
As at the end of 2025 the country recorded 673 murders.
This is the first time the figure has fallen below 700 since 1994.
The prime minister said the Government will continue implementing policies designed to ensure that Jamaica ultimately attains peace.
