Police highlight customer dissatisfaction and fatal shootings as issues to work on
Customer dissatisfaction and fatal shootings are issues the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says it continues to work on.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Clifford Chambers made the statement at the Office of the Commissioner of Police worship service at the Boulevard Baptist Church in Kingston yesterday.
He pointed out that despite challenges such as Hurricane Melissa last year, the police made significant gains in several areas including crime reduction.
ACP Chambers reiterated that 673 murders were recorded, the lowest in 30 years.
While the gains have been welcomed by Jamaicans, the police have been criticized for incidents of poor interactions with civilians, as well as increased fatal shootings.
At the end of 2025, 311 persons were shot and killed by the police, representing a 65% increase over the previous year.
76 such incidents were recorded up to last Thursday, March 26.
ACP Chambers acknowledged that the JCF struggles with issues such as fatal shootings and service delivery and will seek to address them.
