Residents of Port Royal are optimistic about improved water access following the commissioning of the $533-million Port Royal Potable Water Transmission Main Upgrade Project. The initiative, officially launched by Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness on Tuesday, is set to significantly enhance water supply for the historic town and its surrounding areas.

Led by the National Water Commission (NWC), the project began in 2023 and involved replacing 8.6 kilometres of outdated cast-iron pipelines with advanced 300mm (12-inch) High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes. This upgrade promises a more reliable and continuous potable water supply while reducing environmental impact.

The new system will serve approximately 2,000 residents, in addition to benefiting up to 3,000 cruise-ship passengers and local businesses.

Watch now as residents share their reactions to the upgraded water service.
