The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information (MESYI) has announced the closure of all schools for face-to-face classes on Tuesday, due to the expected adverse weather associated with the passage of Tropical Storm Rafael.
However, schools are being urged to make use of the online modality, where feasible.
The announcement was made by Portfolio Minister, Dr Dana Morris Dixon, in a statement on Monday evening.
She said the decision to close schools nationally came after consultation with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
"The safety of our students and educators is paramount. We are urging all schools to utilise online platforms where feasible so that learning can continue even as we prioritise safety," she said.
Morris Dixon is urging educators not to exclude student who lack access to electronic devices or the internet.
On that score, she is imploring educators to assign tasks to such students in line with their textbooks or workbooks, to minimise the impact of the disruption to their routine learning.
Morris Dixon said further updates will be provided as the Government continues to monitor the situation relative to the tropical storm.
