Relatives of Jamaican woman killed in USA call for enforcement of laws that protect domestic abuse victims
Relatives of a Jamaican woman who was killed by her estranged husband in New Jersey, in the United States of America have called for a change in policies relating to protection for domestic violence victims.
38-year-old Deonna Russell Stewart, along with her parents, 61 year old Allan Russell and 60 year old Michelle Russell, were shot dead by 37-year-old Vaughn Stewart at the Russell home in Berkeley on March 10.
The husband then shot himself.
Deonna and Vaughn’s 3 children, who were at the home at the time of the incident, were not harmed.
It’s reported that Deonna had separated from Vaughn and had been living with her parents while claims of domestic abuse were being handled by the court.
Speaking at the funeral service for the Russell family today, Michelle’s sister called for enforcement of laws that protect victims.
