Residents and parliamentarian call on relevant authorities to address poor road conditions in Somerset, Manchester
Member of Parliament for North West Manchester, Mikael Phillips is calling on the relevant authorities and stakeholders to address urgently the poor condition of a major thoroughfare in Somerset.
His appeal follows a protest by irate residents early this morning .
The protest began around 4:00 A.M., when residents used debris to block the road.
Mr. Phillips says the constant use of the roadway by heavy-duty equipment and trucks travelling to and from a near-by Quarry, has resulted in significant damage to the road.
According to him the road was never designed to accommodate such traffic.
He says residents are being inconvenienced and urgent intervention is needed.
Meanwhile, one taxi operator says the poor condition of the road is affecting his vehicle, resulting in increased maintenance costs.
A representative from the Quarry told IRIE FM News that the establishment will comment on the matter, later today.
