St Andrew police charge alleged top gang member along with others

The St Andrew South Police Division has charged multiple individuals for serious offences, including murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of prohibited weapons and abstracting electricity.

Detectives have formally charged Andrew Watson, otherwise called ‘Luther’, a 38-year-old farmer of Waltham Park Road in Kingston 13, in connection with the brutal murder of 21-year-old Johnathan Martin, otherwise called ‘JJ’, a labourer of Waltham Park Road, Kingston 13.

Police have accused Watson as being a top-tier member of the 33 Lane gang.

Investigations revealed that on Friday, January 10, 2025, at about 8 pm, Watson, in the company of several men confronted Martin at his residence and demanded that he leave the area. The group then hit him repeatedly with boards before chasing him along Brotherton Avenue, where he was shot and killed. The perpetrators then escaped on motorcycles.

The police were summoned and on their arrival, Martin’s body was found on the roadway with gunshot wounds to the head and leg. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Watson was later arrested, interviewed in the presence of his lawyer and formally charged on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Detectives have also charged Jason Munroe, otherwise called ‘Moonie’, a 26-year-old businessman of Kingsley Avenue in Kingston 10 and Lemon Lane in Kingston 11, with murder, wounding with intent and multiple firearm-related offences following a deadly shooting incident on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, about 3 pm along Cinnamon Crescent in Kingston 11.

Reports indicate that Munroe who was allegedly armed with a handgun, opened fire on 27-year-old Warren Grant, otherwise called ‘Zeeks’, of Hill Avenue in Kingston 11, while he was sitting along the roadway. Grant attempted to escape but was chased, shot multiple times and collapsed.

Another male who was at the location saw the incident and threw a stone at Munroe. In response, Munroe opened fire on the male, hitting him in the abdomen before escaping in a waiting motor vehicle.

Warren Grant was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where he succumbed to his injuries. The injured man was admitted in stable condition. Munroe was later arrested, interviewed in the presence of his lawyer and formally charged on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

In another incident, police are reporting that a 27-year-old tattoo artist, Horraine Byfield of Silverdene Drive, Kingston 20 has been charged with abstracting electricity following a special operation conducted by the police and the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPSCo) on Tuesday, March 4, 202 at about 9:45 am.

During the operation, police allege that an illegal electricity connection was detected at Byfield’s premises. Upon further checks, he indicated that he was the owner of the property and was subsequently charged.
