The St Mary Municipal Corporation says it is expecting a busy festive season for the parish, as applications for temporary vending licences soar.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Municipal Corporation, Ethlyn Douglas, said that based on the number of persons who have come in for temporary vending licences they are expecting a busy season, and “we want to ensure that our travelling public, both vehicular and pedestrian traffic, have a free flow.”
According to the CEO, vendors will be directed to the Port Maria market as long as there is still space, especially those who are visiting for the period.
“If there is any overflow, we have designated spaces within the town to allow them to vend (while) not blocking any roadways (and) not blocking any sidewalks,” Douglas said.
In addition, she outlined some changes in relation to movement within the town of Port Maria during December 23-24 and December 30-31.
“We will allow trucks to venture south on Stennett Street through the town (and) smaller vehicles will turn left at the clock, go on main street through Frontier and then exit either through the Port Maria Housing Scheme or adjacent to the Port Maria fire station, so that we can get some of that traffic out of that town,” she said.
She also reported that the popular Cox Street is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic due to a collapsed section.
