Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls have climbed to third place in the final World Netball rankings for the year, released on Thursday.
The team improved from fourth place after defeating England in the inaugural Horizon Series in November.
The Sunshine Girls secured a 2-1 series victory over England, culminating in a dominant 61-53 win in Kingston on November 26. This was Jamaica’s first full international series since finishing third at the 2023 World Cup.
The new Horizon Series will take place over four years between the two sides, with two matches in England and two in Jamaica each year.
“We are incredibly proud of the Sunshine Girls and the remarkable strides they have made in recent years,” said Netball Jamaica president Tricia Robinson. “This number three world ranking reflects not only the talent and hard work of the players but also the strategic leadership of coach Sasher-Gaye Henry, specialist coach Rob Wright, and the dedicated support of the entire coaching and management staff.”
England, previously ranked second in the October 6 update, dropped to fourth after their rating decreased by one point.
New Zealand reclaimed second place following their Constellation Cup victory over Australia, who remain at the top of the rankings. However, Australia’s rating fell by five points to 204, narrowing the gap between first and second from 20 to 12 points.
South Africa retained fifth place, gaining two points after sweeping Malawi in the SPAR Challenge Series. Malawi remain in seventh.
