The funds acquired through support Jamaica will be used to purchase building material to support the rebuilding effort, following the devastation caused by hurricane Melissa in October.
Information Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon said Cabinet on Monday, made the decision about how the funds will be used.
The Ministry of Labour is undertaking assessments to determine houses damaged or destroyed during the passage of the Category 5 hurricane.
Repairs will only be done in cases where assessments have taken place.
Engineers from Guyana and the Jamaica Defence Force will undertake the rebuilding of homes.
Dr. Morris Dixon said the majority of the houses to be rebuilt are in eastern Westmoreland.
Meantime, Director General of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), Commander Alvin Gayle stated that some 31,000 damage assessments have been undertaken by the Labour and Social Security Ministry.
He adds that 215,000 buildings across the country have some level of damage.
