This year’s 45th staging of the National Leadership Prayer Breakfast (NLPB) will focus its outreach on supporting The Tegwyn House, a special unit at the Jamaica National Children’s Home that provides 24-hour care for children with severe mental and physical disabilities. The event will take place on Thursday, January 16, at 7:30 am at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, under the theme “Righteousness Exalts A Nation.”

Speaking at the online media launch last week, Rev. Sam McCook, Chairman of the NLPB Committee highlighted the importance of this year’s outreach: “The Tegwyn House represents a critical area of need in our society. As the Church, we are committed to playing a meaningful role in the care and development of Jamaica’s children.”

The National Leadership Prayer Breakfast, which began in 1981, continues to serve as a unifying event, fostering fellowship and spiritual reflection among Jamaica’s leaders. This year, the Breakfast seeks to inspire greater national responsibility and engagement with those most in need, as exemplified by its outreach efforts.

Reflecting on the success of previous initiatives, Rev. Dr Peter Garth of Hope Gospel Assembly highlighted the impact of the Educate and Elevate Programme, the 2024 NLPB beneficiary said: “Last year, we distributed 1,039 backpacks filled with supplies to children in economically challenged communities, including Clarendon. Such efforts are directly changing lives and empowering future nation builders.”

He further noted that donations totalling $800,000 benefited students at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, with $500,000 provided by the VM Foundation, alongside contributions received during the Breakfast.

Speaking on the theme for the 2025 staging, Rev. McCook emphasized the importance of righteousness as both a personal and national goal.

“The NLPB is an opportunity to bring our leaders together to reflect on their own personal life and journeys, to prayerfully present their challenges as individuals and as leaders to God; and for us to collectively pray as Jamaicans for each other, for our leaders and for our nation. This is a call for a community of people to rise to the call of Gods words that righteousness exalts a nation.”

Courtney Campbell, Group President and CEO of the VM Group, which has supported the breakfast since its inception, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to the initiative: “The National Prayer Breakfast Committee has consistently demonstrated faithfulness and diligence, making a significant contribution to Jamaica’s development. The VM Group is honoured to continue our partnership in meeting the spiritual and social needs of our leaders and citizens.”

The event is also supported by the Jamaica Broilers Foundation, marking their second consecutive year as a sponsor.

Patronised by Sir Patrick Allen, Governor-General of Jamaica, the event will be broadcast live on local television and radio stations, allowing members of the public to join in prayer and reflection.
