The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) in partnership with several local stakeholders tested a tsunami early warning system in Port Maria, St Mary, this morning.
Six sirens or alarms which were placed strategically, in and around Port Maria were sounded simultaneously during the drill.
ODPEM Regional Coordinator, Marlon Brown said the testing of the system, is aligned with Caribewave, where each year, the region’s tsunami response mechanism is tested.
He said some 40 countries participated in the drill which was focused on safety.
