Two Clarendon men charged last year for transporting scrap metal without permit sentenced
Two Clarendon men who were charged last year for transporting scrap metal without a permit have been sentenced.
59-year-old Owen Brown otherwise known as ‘Toney’– of Curatoe Hill District and 56-year-old Morris Whyte otherwise known as ‘Iron man’ of Sunnyside District, May Pen, were fined $50,000 or 15 days imprisonment and $100,000 or 30 days imprisonment respectively when they appeared in the Manchester Parish Court on Thursday.
They were charged with failure to produce carrier’s permit.
The two men were arrested and charged by members of the Agricultural Protection Branch –(APB) area 3 team on Monday July 7, 2025.
Police reports are that about 3:45 p.m., police were carrying out mobile patrol in the Williamsfield community, when both men were stopped on the content main road in Manchester, and the vehicle searched.
During the search, a large quantity of assorted scrap metal was seen by the police.
The carrier’s license was requested of the men, which neither of them could produce.
They were informed of the breach and later arrested and charged.
The matter was mentioned in court three times before the men entered a guilty plea at the trial, and they were both sentenced.
