The St James police have launched a manhunt for gunmen who shot and injured two cops who thwarted a robbery at a supermarket on Church Street, Montego Bay, in the parish on Tuesday night.

According to reports from the Constabulary Communications Network (CCN), members of the St James Beat Officer Patrol Division (BOPD) intercepted the armed men during the incident, which resulted in a shoot-out with the hoodlums who were armed with a high-powered weapon and a handgun.

The police said two officers were shot and injured but are said to be in stable condition.

The gunmen managed to escape, and it remains unclear whether any of them were injured during the exchange, CCN release said.

The St James police are appealing to witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist in the apprehension of the gunmen.
