Chartered accountant Vernon Douglas has been appointed as the chairman of Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica (BNSJ) Limited, following a decision by the board of directors.

Douglas has been an independent board member of BNSJ since December 2022 and brings over 20 years of experience in financial leadership, business development, and process optimization across the Caribbean, Central America, and Europe.

His expertise includes competitive strategy, business transformation, merger and acquisition evaluations, risk management, and investor relations. A purpose-driven leader, he is dedicated to fostering individual, community, and national transformation.

Douglas holds the designation of chartered accountant (FCCA) and has completed executive education programs at Wharton Business School and MIT Sloan Institute of Management. He currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer at Jamaica Public Service.

His appointment follows the resignation of former Chair Anya Schnoor, who will continue as chair of Scotia Group Jamaica Limited.

These changes took effect on March 7, 2025.
