Vybz Kartel returns to stage in spectacular fashion

The iconic Vybz Kartel lit up the National Stadium in Kingston on Tuesday night in front of a packed-to-capacity crowd at his Freedom Street Concert. The performance, marking his first stage appearance in 13 years since his release from prison, thrilled die-hard fans as they welcomed the "World Boss" back to the spotlight on New Year’s Eve.

Taking the stage shortly after 11 pm —an hour later than the anticipated 10 pm start — Kartel was greeted with thunderous applause from an already electrified audience.

Dressed impeccably in a blue-striped three-piece suit paired with a bold orange tie, Kartel launched his set with a series of his early hits, instantly captivating the crowd. Within moments, the stadium echoed with fans singing along to every word, transforming into a massive choir and amplifying the energy of the night.

Despite the delayed start, the crowd remained unfazed. High-energy juggling from top-tier selectors like Chromatic Live and CodeRed kept the atmosphere alive, as they seamlessly transitioned through dancehall anthems, priming the audience for Kartel's explosive entrance.

The night also featured memorable appearances from members of Kartel’s infamous Portmore Empire, including Lisa Hyper, Gaza Hindu, Sheba, Jah Vinci, and Shawn Storm, the latter of whom was imprisoned alongside Kartel. Together, they joined the dynamic entertainer on stage, delivering a dose of nostalgia for loyal Gaza fans.

Up to the time of this publication, enhancing the star-studded lineup was US-based rapper Busta Rhymes, who thrilled the audience with his presence; Spice, who brought her signature energy; and Nhance, the son of Sheba, showcasing the next generation of talent.
