Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared that Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) workers are ready for the upcoming General Elections, but stated that the organisation still has some work to do.

Amid that admission, Holness declared that the governing party will not "back down" from attaining a third term in office, arguing that it has earned another election victory based on its performance in office.

General Elections are due by September of this year, and speculation is rife that the polls could be held during the summer holiday.

In addressing a party meeting in North Eastern St Elizabeth on Friday night, Holness expressed confidence in the party's chances at the polls, citing the need for a third consecutive term to consolidate the country's progress.

"We (the JLP) are not going to back down. In fact, the sense I get as I walk into this room, is that unuh ready," Holness told the jubilant labourites.

"However, there is some work that the organisation has to do," he informed without elaborating further.

The JLP leader argued that the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) should not be allowed to regain state power, warning that some young Jamaicans lack awareness of the PNP's record.

On that score, the JLP leader announced plans for an aggressive political education campaign to inform voters, especially youngsters, about his Administration's achievements, as well as the purported failures of past PNP administrations.

"We are going to be putting out the information every day, ad nauseam, repeat it, repeat it, repeat it, so that the voter can hear and understand," he explained, urging party workers to engage with voters at the personal level.

Holness cautioned against complacency, noting that some voters may not automatically support the JLP.

"Don't tek it for granted that the people in your community are going to automatically get up and vote," he warned.

The prime minister again criticised the PNP, accusing them of feeling entitled to power without a clear plan for governance.

In contrast, Holness argued that the JLP has "run the country well", and has "earned" a third term, citing positive assessments from global ratings agency Fitch.

"We are serious about winning the third term for Jamaica," the JLP leader declared.

"This is the year of decisions. You will have to make a choice... I urge you to choose what is in the best interest of your country," Holness said, pointing to the lower murder rate, the unemployment rate, and the fixing of roads as positive achievements under the JLP Government.

"Choose the Jamaica Labour Party!" Holness told labourites as he ended his address.
