Parts of US to experience coldest winter in years
Half of the United States is facing the coldest winter on record in years, as a blast of Arctic air descends on the center and east of the country.
This configuration will drop temperatures well below average in some places, with extreme weather conditions until mid-January.
In fact, AccuWeather indicated that this magnitude and extension of Arctic air will affect 250 million people in more than 40 states in the central and eastern regions of the North American country.
In this way, the coldest January witnessed by Americans since 2011 is expected, according to long-term expert Paul Pastelok. In that vein, CNN meteorologist Mary Gilbert warned that this icy blast of air arrived in the north-central region on Wednesday, causing highs of around -12°C in parts of Montana, the Dakotas and Minnesota.
As the days go by, the trend will spread to parts of the south and east. For example, single-digit lows are expected in Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois on Saturday, while northern North Dakota will face lows of up to -30°C.
Other central and eastern states are expected to see weather conditions between 2 and 11 degrees colder than normal.
