The Watchman Church Leaders Alliance (WCLA) has welcomed the Government’s plan to look at amending the Adoption Act and the Child Care and Protection Act (CCPA) to facilitate easier adoption.

Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon made the announcement last Wednesday.

She noted that there are a lot of concerns surrounding the Act including the right of the child versus the parent.

Dr. Morris Dixon said a Joint Select Committee will be established to review the Act.

WCLA said this is an excellent initiative to streamline adoption, adding that formalizing a fostering framework is a vital step toward ensuring every Jamaican child has a permanent loving home.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Co-Chairman of the Watchman Church Leaders Alliance, Pastor Michael McAnuff-Jones said due to the difficulty of the adoption process children have languished in State care.

He said there is the need for enabling legislation.
