The Savanna-la-mar Public General Hospital, through the Ministry of Health & Wellness benefited from a brand new, fully functional state-of-the-art digital radiography unit valued at $50.6M donated by CHASE Fund.

The digital radiography unit is a part of the total $78.1M of medical equipment that was donated to the Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA) from CHASE Fund.

The announcement was made at the official handover ceremony which took place on Friday, March 14, at the Savanna-la-mar Public General Hospital.

The donation was dissected across three (3) of the hospitals within the region – Savanna-la-mar Public General Hospital, Cornwall Regional Hospital, and Falmouth Public General Hospital, of which all received orthopedic drills, operating theatre lights valued and vital sign monitors.

“Savanna-la-mar Public General Hospital is the cornerstone of healthcare in Westmoreland, serving thousands of residents daily. However, as with many of our public hospitals, the demand for high-quality medical services continues to grow. This donation will undoubtedly ease some of the challenges faced by our healthcare workers, empowering them with the resources needed to provide optimal care,” Dr Christopher Tufton, MP, Minister of Health & Wellness noted during his remarks.

Newly Acquired Generator for Savanna-la-mar Hospital

In addition to the donation of medical equipment that the Savanna-la-mar Hospital received, they have also recently acquired a CesGen Diesel Generator valued at J$59.5M through the WRHA. This is a huge upgrade from the generator that was previously used by the hospital as it was procured with the intent that it will serve the present and future needs. An automatic transfer switch (ATS) was also procured to aid the generator with ability to allow for little to no human intervention in case of power loss.
