Justice Minister Delroy Check is reminding justices of the peace (JPs) that the true reward for their service lies not in financial gain, but in the positive impact they have on people's lives.
"Your reward is that you feel good that you're helping a person; that's your reward," Chuck stressed, highlighting the intrinsic value of volunteering one's time and expertise, despite the demands associated with being a JP.
He made the overall statements while speaking at a JPs' sensitisation session at Casa Maria Hotel in Port Maria, St Mary on Thursday.
The minister's reminder came amid concerns that some JPs are charging for their services locally, a practice Chuck has vehemently opposed over recent years.
Despite the warnings, some JPs are reportedly continuing the practice.
Chuck told the JPs that that their integrity is worth far more than any monetary compensation.
"It is a position of trust. It is a position of standing. It is a position that makes you stand out in your community," he argued.
"The last thing you'd want to do is when people come to you, you say, '$5,000', and those JPs who are charging, I say, 'Stop it!'" Chuck warned.
He said as officials, their "integrity is worth more than the $2,000 and $5,000" that are reportedly being illegally charged by some JPs for their services to members of the public.
"It (the work of a JP) must be done voluntarily," Chuck reiterated.
