Fifty-two-year-old Florient Casserly, a customer service representative of Lydford Housing Scheme, Golden Grove, St Ann, has been charged with embezzlement in relation to incidents in Claremont, St Ann, including on Monday, January 1 this year.

According to reports from the St Ann police, Casserly was a cashier at an establishment in the area. Her task was to collect bill payments from customers, process the transactions, and issue receipts for the payments.

However, she allegedly sometimes waited until the customers had left the establishment, then used her supervisor's login to void the same customers’ transactions, and keep the monies for herself.

The complainant in the case, acting on information from concerned customers, conducted an investigation and discovered that Casserly had allegedly embezzled $3.38 million over a period of time.

A report was made to the police after she failed to hand over the money, and she was taken into police custody.

Casserly was charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of her attorney, the police said in a release.
