The Town of Caledon in Ontario Canada, has designated the month of October as Jamaica Heritage Month. This month-long celebration aims to recognise and honour the rich cultural contributions of Jamaican-Canadians to the diverse fabric of our community.

Canada and Jamaica have a long history of diplomatic ties dating from 1962 with over 300 thousand Jamaicans living in the country. The Jamaica Heritage Month initiative is a collaborative effort between the Town of Caledon, local Jamaican-Canadian organisations, and community volunteers. It aims to educate, entertain, and foster cross-cultural understanding among all residents.

Mayor of Caledon, Her Excellency Annette Groves said. "We are thrilled to dedicate a full month to celebrating the vibrant Jamaican culture that has enriched our town. This initiative reflects Caledon's commitment to inclusivity and cultural diversity."

Director of Tourism, Donovan White said, "Canada is Jamaica’s second highest source market and this celebration is an opportunity for all Caledon residents to experience the warmth, creativity, and resilience of Jamaican culture. Jamaican Heritage Month is a bridge, allowing Canadians to experience our culture's warmth, rhythm, and flavour here at home.”

Canada’s Regional Director, Angella Bennett, “The launch of Jamaican Heritage Month aligns perfectly with our mission to promote 'Brand Jamaica' globally and will assist us in meeting our target of getting 500 thousand Canadians to Jamaica. We invite everyone to participate and learn more about our shared history and future."
