Administrators at Stella Maris Preparatory School in St Andrew have denied a newspaper report which suggested that a robbery occurred at the school earlier this week.

In an email to parents and guardians on Friday, the school's Principal, Sister Mary Joseph, said the newspaper report has caused concern within the school community.

"The report suggested that a robbery occurred at Stella Maris Preparatory School. I want to assure you that this information is inaccurate; the incident actually took place at a different location, and not at the school," Joseph stated.

She said at no point were the students and staff "at risk".

The school has since taken the opportunity to review its protocols to ensure that all aspects of "our community remain safe and secure," said Joseph.

She elaborated that, "Since the incident, the school has been working collaboratively with our security company to enhance measures.

"We have commenced the process to implement additional security measures in order to prevent and deter any such attempts on our premises," the principal informed.

While stating that the measures that are being implemented cannot be divulged, Joseph said the number of security personnel was increased the day after the incident.
