On Friday, November 22 at approximately 10am, members of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) and the Jamaica Customs Agency Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) intercepted a shipment of cocaine at the Amerijet warehouse at Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston.

Investigators from the FNID reported that the seizure consisted of 78 parcels weighing approximately 84.2 kilograms (185.24 pounds) of white powdery substance resembling cocaine.

The drug was reportedly concealed in 13 boxes of 2kg Maggie seasoning, which was said to have been part of a larger shipment that included wines and beers.

The shipment which was intended for an address in Miami, Florida in the United States, was transported from the warehouse to FNID headquarters for further investigation.

While no arrest has been made to date, the police said investigations into the matter are on in earnest with an aim of identifying and apprehending those who were involved in the illicit operation.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Acting), Samuel Blake, said FNID will continue to collaborate with key partners as the division focuses on the individuals and groups that pose the greatest threat to violence reduction in Jamaica by virtue of their involvement in the illicit firearms and narcotics trades.
