Many commuters left stranded after taxi operators withdraw service over poor state of Brokenhurst main road in Manchester
Many commuters in Manchester were this morning forced to walk for several miles, after taxi operators withdrew their service and blocked the Brokenhurst main road in protest of deplorable road conditions.
The frustrated operators were joined by residents, who demanded that the main road and an adjacent community road be repaired.
One resident explained that her relatives have to pay more for fare due to the poor road conditions.
Meanwhile, a taxi operator highlighted that it has been almost ten years since the road was rehabilitated.
He added that the poor conditions increase vehicle maintenance costs and slow down business.
In the meantime, Councillor for the Knockpatrick Division, Karl Smith acknowledged the frustration of residents and promised to continue advocating for the repair of the roads.
