PM Holness says Caribbean region must prepare for climate shocks, calls for unity among member states

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says the Caribbean region must move from responding to climate shocks to preparing for them.

Dr. Holness, who is also the outgoing Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) made the declaration yesterday.

He was speaking at the 50th Regular Meeting of Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in St. Kitts & Nevis.

Dr. Holness said Hurricane Melissa has highlighted the need for small island developing States to take steps to fight the effects of climate change.

As it relates to the regional body, Dr. Holness acknowledged that CARICOM will not always be one.

He called for unity and continued cooperation between member states.
