The Fi We Children Foundation (FWCF) is calling for urgent review and reform of school grooming policies to ensure they align with child rights principles, dignity, and equitable access to education.

The FWCF states that recent national conversations surrounding grooming infractions in schools have highlighted the need for policies that protect, not penalise students.

The organisation maintains that educational institutions must remain safe and inclusive spaces where no child is denied learning opportunities due to hairstyle, texture, or culturally significant grooming practices.

FWCF is calling on the Ministry of Education and key stakeholders to support nationwide consultations aimed at ensuring school policies reflect Jamaica’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Executive Founder of FWCF, Africka Stephens, underscores that the approaches to discipline should not marginalise any particular group.
