“Development approval processes consider climate risks” – Samuda says developers to have access to Jamaica Systemic Risk Assessment Tool soon
The Government has sought to assure that its development approval processes are grounded in science and take climate risks into account.
Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Change, Matthew Samuda, gave the assurance at a Leaders in Real Estate Breakfast at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston on Thursday.
This, as he stressed the importance of real estate development as part of continued efforts to pursue Jamaica’s Vision 2030 goals.
Pointing to the impact of recent natural disasters, the Minister told the real estate professionals that Jamaica must confront the fact that the changing climate can trigger over US$12 billion in damage and economic losses in a single weekend.
Mr. Samuda added that the development of the Jamaica Systemic Risk Assessment tool will help the nation move forward in a climate-resilient manner.
He promised that this tool will be made available to developers as soon as possible.
