Jamaica positioning itself to remain competitive in global services industry, as A-I reshapes business operations

Jamaica is actively positioning itself to remain competitive in the global services industry as Artificial Intelligence, A-I continues to reshape business operations worldwide.

That’s according to Minister of State for Industry, and Commerce, Delano Seiveright.

He said while AI is expected to automate some routine functions, it will also create opportunities for more advanced roles within the sector.

Mr. Seiveright was speaking at the launch of the Portmore Incubator and Linkages Forum at the Portmore Informatics Park in St. Catherine, recently.

He noted that Jamaica’s Global Digital Services and Business Process Outsourcing, BPO sector employs more than fifty thousand citizens, providing a major source of jobs for young people and generating foreign exchange for the country.

Mr. Seiveright said the industry has always evolved with technology and must continue that adaptation as AI tools become more widely used across customer experience and business support operations.

He noted that the focus must now be on moving further into higher-value services, including complex customer engagement, compliance-driven support, analytics and AI-assisted operations.
