Former MP Jolyan Silvera to be sentenced today in relation to death of wife Melissa
Former Member of Parliament Jolyan Silvera who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in relation to the 2023 death of his wife Melissa is to be sentenced today.
The Office of Director of Public Prosecution last month accepted his plea, stating that having heard Mr. Silvera’s account, it would not have been able to evidentially negate the partial defence of provocation raised by him.
It was reported that on the night of November 10, 2023, Mr. Silvera and his wife, had an argument which got physical.
In a statement presented to the court he indicated that during the argument she made derogatory statements about his sister and mother which he found to be provocative.
According to the statement, he said further that she made a comment about their children which he found to be the final straw and at that point he lost control and discharged his weapon in her direction.
The sentencing will be live streamed.
