KSAMC, NSWMA & carnival organisers treat clean up & safety as priority for this year’s event

Clean up arrangements and adherence to safety requirements are being treated as top priority for this year’s staging of Carnival in Jamaica.

This in the wake of complaints and infractions at past events, which prompted the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation and the National Solid Waste Management Authority to step up monitoring and enforcement.

The highlight of the weeklong activity is the road march tomorrow, just hours after the J’ouvert.

Carnival organisers met again with KSAMC officials on Thursday and they sought to assure that all requirements have been met.

Chairman of Carnival in Jamaica Kamal Bankay said part of the safety requirements, is that motorcycles will not be allowed in the areas designated for revelers and spectators.

Meantime, Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby noted that city engineers have inspected temporary structures for safety and the NSWMA will monitor clean up.    

Mayor Swaby said J’ouvert paints were tested to ensure easy removal.
