Police believe argument over ice led to stabbing death of Kingston higgler yesterday; alleged attacker fatally shot by lawmen

Commanding officer for the Kingston Central Police, Superintendent Mischka Forbes says an argument over ice is believed to have led to the stabbing death of a higgler along Love Lane yesterday.

Dead is 50-year-old Katherine Wallace of Fleet Street, Kingston.

Her alleged attacker, Davar Dacres of Kings Street, Fletchers Land also in Kingston was fatally shot during a confrontation with lawmen hours later.

Superintendent Forbes said reports indicate that Dacres and Wallace had been drinking at a location when a dispute started over ice.

She said Wallace’s killing is the third in the division since the start of 2026. 

The commanding officer noted that interpersonal and domestic violence incidents in the division have been increasing since last year. 

As such, the division has launched Operation Blade to bolster the seizure of illicit weapons.

Meantime Head of the Area 4 Police, Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps says violence against citizens will be met with lawful decisive action.

ACP Phipps reiterated that the island’s officers are trained to protect citizens and themselves when they come under attack.

He urged citizens to seek avenues to resolve conflicts without the use of violence.
