Senate continues NaRRA debate; Fitz-Henley chides civil society groups over “selective outrage”

As deliberations on the National Reconstruction Resilience Authority (NaRRA) Bill continued in the Upper House today, Government Senator Abka Fitz-Henley chided civil society groups for what he called a selective outrage on issues.

Last month at least 28 civil society organizations raised concern about the Bill.

While making his contribution to the debate on the Bill, Senator Fitz-Henley lambasted the groups which have alleged that the proposed legislation would pave the way for corruption.

He accused them of siding with the Opposition which has long maintained that the Bill raises concerns about proper oversight and accountability.

In response, Opposition Senator Donna Scott-Mottley said the comment is a signal that the concerns of those who deviate from the Government’s opinions will not be considered.

She accused the Government of condemning civil society groups for carrying out their civic duties.
