Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness, has urged the developers of the Rozelle Estate in St. Thomas to review their building plans to ensure that resilient houses are being constructed.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony yesterday, Dr. Holness pointed to the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa last October and the imminent approach of another hurricane season.
The 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season will officially begin on June 1 and end on November 30.
Noting Rozelle Estate’s geographical location, Dr. Holness said the development must be able to withstand a Category 5 system.
The Prime Minister encouraged developers to surpass existing thresholds in their designs.
