Effective June 1, a new accountability regime will be put in place for the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).
This governance and oversight mechanism for the hospital comes in the wake of a damning report from the Auditor General, which highlighted procurement breaches, among other issues.
Recent discussions during parliamentary committee meetings also revealed that periodic reports from the UHWI may not have been submitted to the health ministry.
Health minister Dr. Christopher Tufton noted that a comprehensive legislative review will be undertaken this year.
He was making his contribution to the sectoral debate in the lower house today.
