Opposition slams gov’t over donated Hurricane Melissa relief funds in AG report
The Opposition People’s National Party has blasted the government following an Auditor General report that as at February this year only $26 million has been spent from the more than $1 billion donated for Hurricane Melissa relief.
This was highlighted in a report tabled in Parliament yesterday.
According to the report of the $1.4 billion in cash donated only 1.8% has been used as at February.
Speaking with IRIE FM News Spokesperson on Information Nekeisha Burchell said it is heartbreaking that the country has unused funds, while citizens are still suffering months after Hurricane Melissa.
According to Ms. Burchell, the government’s response has not moved with the urgency needed to aid citizens.
She added that Hurricane Melissa victims need action and compassion.
