Parliament says 5 reports submitted by Integrity Commission being addressed in accordance with internal processes
Gordon House says five reports submitted by the Integrity Commission for tabling are being addressed in accordance with internal processes and under the guidance of the presiding officers.
Gordon House in confirming receipt of the documents, says the reports have not yet been tabled in either the House of Representatives or the Senate.
The statement from Parliament followed a call by Opposition Leader Mark Golding for the immediate tabling of the Integrity Commission investigative report into the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA).
In a letter to Speaker of the House, Juliet Holness, Mr. Golding said he was alarmed to learn that the report, which was reportedly submitted to Parliament on March 30 has still not been tabled in the House of Representatives.
In a Statement Gordon House points out that having regard to the statutory confidentiality obligations applicable before tabling, the Houses of Parliament will not confirm or deny the subject matter of any report, the contents of any report, any finding or recommendations contained in any report, or whether any person or entity is named or referred to therein.
Gordon House adds that its aware of related correspondence and court proceedings that have been brought to its attention.
However, it says Parliament is responsible for the regulation of its own internal proceedings, including the manner in which documents submitted to it are laid before the houses.
According to the statement, the Integrity Commission act does not prescribe a specific timeline or procedure for the tabling of reports submitted to Parliament.
Gordon House states that the reports will be dealt with in accordance with Parliament’s constitutional, legal and procedural responsibilities.
The Parliament says it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the proper observance of the law.
