Thousands of people who lost documents in Hurricane Melissa to receive replacements under NIRA initiative

Thousands of people who lost important documents due to Hurricane Melissa have replaced them under an initiative by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).
Minister with Responsibility for Efficiency, Innovation and Digital Transformation Audrey Marks gave the update during her contribution to the Sectoral Debate.
Ms. Marks said the NIRA’s national post Hurricane Melissa Document Recovery Programme processed over 47,000 applications.
She said the programme has evolved into a service offered by NIRA to assist persons affected by disasters or emergency events.
The minister also related a case involving a resident of Negril, Westmoreland whose documents including pension book were destroyed by a recent fire.
