Spanish Town Mayor, Norman Scott, has noted the need for more public education about cremation as an alternative to traditional burial.
Speaking at a Labour Day project at the Barry and Lloyd Cemetery on Monday, Mayor Scott pointed to concerns about limited burial plot spaces at public cemeteries.
He said the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation is looking into establishing a columbarium at the Thetford Park cemetery.
A columbarium is a structure for the storage of cremated remains of the dead.
Mayor Scott added that the Local Government Ministry is discussing after-care arrangements for closed cemeteries.
