MPs Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert and Mikael phillips welcome opening of new Troy Bridge on Manchester / Trelawny border

The 2 Members of Parliament who have long lobbied for a new Troy Bridge on the Manchester / Trelawny border have welcomed the opening of the structure.

The bridge which was built in 1869 had been showing signs of deterioration for several years prior to its collapse after the passing of Tropical Storm Grace in August 2021.

It served residents and commuters travelling between the parishes of Trelawny, Manchester and St Elizabeth, including students and teachers at the nearby Troy High School.

Construction of the new bridge was recently completed, at a cost of $231 million.

Member of Parliament for Trelawny Southern Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert said the new bridge represents the Government’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of Jamaicans.

Meanwhile Member of Parliament for Manchester north western, Michael Phillips expressed appreciation to the Government for fulfilling its promise.
