The full 16 per cent taxi fare increase is now in effect.
This in the wake of an initial 8 per cent fare adjustment which was implemented a month ago on June 2.
The remaining 8 per cent is being applied today across the country.
Transport Minister, Daryl Vaz said the phased approach was based on consideration of the inflationary impact a full implementation of the 16 per cent increase would have had in June.
The implementation also came after PPV operators threatened to withdraw their service in May, after waiting for the 16% increase to be approved by the Government.
The 16 per cent was the second phase of a 35 per cent fare increase approved in October 2023.
Only a 19% hike was implemented at that time.
The remaining 16% was due in April 2024.
However, the second phase was deferred amidst broader economic concerns.
