Senate President Tavares-Finson says it would be extremely reckless for Jamaica to commit to the CCJ – IRIE Fm

Senate President Tom Tavares-Finson says it would be extremely reckless for Jamaica to commit to the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) as its final Appellate Court given the turmoil gripping the court.

The Trinidad Express reported earlier this week on a series of allegations made by CCJ judges, including reports that President Justice Winston Anderson has been leading in an authoritarian manner.

Mr. Tavares-Finson said that no less than a public hearing is required to address the issues facing the CCJ.

He said of all the issues raised, the allegation that attempts are being made to influence judicial decisions is most troubling and must be treated seriously.

Mr. Tavares-Finson questioned whether the People’s National Party still insists on the CCJ for Jamaica to become a republic, despite current turmoil at the court.
