Works Minister Robert Morgan calls for probe into fatal Montego Bay Bypass accident

Works Minister Robert Morgan is calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of an engineer at the Montego Bay Perimeter Road project in St. James this morning.

The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Clifton James of Paradise Heights, Hendon in Norwood.

Reports are that at about 9:45 am, James was measuring an area at the project site near Granville when a truck reversed into him.

In expressing regret at the incident, Mr. Morgan extended condolences to James’ relatives and colleagues.

Morgan said a tragedy of this nature should never occur on any work site, stressing that no project deadline, target or operational consideration is more important than the safety and life of a worker.

The Works Minister said the protection of people working on the country’s infrastructure-projects is non-negotiable.

In the meantime, the National Road Operating and Constructing Company limited (NROCC) has also extended condolences to James’ family and colleagues.

NROCC says the incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness as the safety and well- being of all persons working on its projects are a priority.
