Anti-lottery Scam Unit highlights successful first-quarter under its ‘Scam Dun, Justice a Run’ operations
The Anti-Lottery Scam Unit (ALSU) arrested 27 people, 11 of whom have been charged between December 10 last year and April 10 this year.
This as the unit ramped up its operations against lottery scamming.
It conducted a series of coordinated operations dubbed ‘Scam Dun, Justice A Run,’ seizing motor vehicles and foreign and local currencies.
The JCF said the initiative was an intelligence-driven push to dismantle criminal networks operating islandwide.
The operations swept through multiple parishes including St. James, Westmoreland, Hanover, Trelawny, St. Ann, St. Mary, Manchester, Portland and St. Thomas.
The unit said the measurable impact included: 11 persons charged, 13 vehicles seized, over 16 mobile devices confiscated and approximately J$2.4 million and US$1,300 recovered.
The JCF noted the arrest of 25-year-old Tafari Lambert of Watermount, Porus, Manchester.
Police said his arrest marked a significant breakthrough, as investigators were able to uncover what they call a web of alleged criminal activity.
Lambert now faces multiple charges, including possession of identity information with intent, use and possession of access devices, unlawful possession of property, conspiracy and involvement in international money transfers.
According to police, several mobile devices linked to him have revealed evidence of fraudulent identities, overseas victims and high-value transactions.
The ALSU noted that the fight against lottery scamming is relentless, adding that through intelligence-led strategies and sustained enforcement, it remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring offenders face justice.
