Chief Justice: alternative accommodation identified for Westmoreland parish court
Chief Justice Bryan Sykes has indicated that alternative accommodation has been identified for the Westmoreland parish court.
The courthouse was extensively damaged by Hurricane Melissa last October.
The facility also has other issues, to include, mould and mosquito infestation.
Court staff staged a sick out on Monday, highlighting their poor working conditions while calling for the situation to be addressed by the Court Administration Division and Justice ministry.
The Chief Justice visited the court and met with staff members on Thursday.
He acknowledged the issues and commended the staff for their resilience.
He said the current conditions are untenable and steps are being taken to have court operations relocated to another facility.
He reiterated the call for the Court Administration Division to have greater control.
