Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has issued a stern warning to Jamaicans, reiterating that taking the law into their own hands is not the solution to conflicts.
In addressing the Social Justice Town Hall Meeting at the Hanover Municipal Corporation carpark in Lucea on Thursday, Chuck claimed that revenge is a primary driver of murders and violence across the island.
"Get counselling, talk to the police, talk to the social justice section," Chuck advised.
"And by doing so, you are able to resolve the problem, rather than getting into further problems because when you take revenge and retaliation, you're creating problems for yourself and your family, and yuh can't guh tell the court that it is justified in taking revenge because dem lick yuh first," Chuck warned.
Chuck declared that seeking revenge only leads to more trouble, pointing out that "from you take revenge, it is a new act".
He underscored the importance of resolving disputes peacefully, noting that disagreements are a natural part of life.
"Nothing is wrong with you and I disagreeing; nothing is wrong if every now and again there is a dispute, but there is no need to fight!" Chuck insisted.
For those struggling to resolve disputes, the minister recommended seeking help from the justice centres.
